MINORITY BUSINESS ENTERPRISE

MBE is a non-industry specific company level ownership/diversity certification. MBE certifications are usually issued by the federal, state or local government. Eligibility for certification as a Minority Business Enterprise varies depending on the issuer but generally requires that a company be owned and operated by a member of a minority group such as African American, Native American, Asian or Hispanic American.

WOMEN BUSINESS ENTERPRISE

Businesses who have achieved WBENC certification are permitted to use the WBE seal on their marketing materials. indicating that the women's business enterprise has been approved according to national WBENC rules and guidelines. WOMEN-OWNED SMALL BUSINESSES

The Small Business Administration oversees the Women-Owned Small Business Program (SBA). The SBA designed the WOSB, like other business certification programs, to assist female-owned businesses in obtaining public and private contracts that they might not have been able to obtain otherwise.

The program grants businesses official SBA certification. As a result, WOSB-certified businesses can compete for federal contracts and gain access to other free resources provided by the SBA.

DISADVANTAGED BUSINESS ENTERPRISE

The DBE Certification Program is a federal program for business owners who are considered "socially and economically disadvantaged."

LGBT BUSINESS ENTERPRISE

This certification is issued by the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC). LGBTBEs are the businesses that are being certified (LGBT Business Enterprises). The goal of these businesses obtaining certification is to assist you in obtaining supplier contracts with large corporations or local, state, and federal government agencies. To put it simply, being a certified business gets you a seat at the bidding table.
